Start of the Ebor meeting at York today... or so we thought. A major blow as the first day of the meeting has been lost to waterlogging - we had a very nice bet lined up there too.
And with poor weather elsewhere around the country, and very changeable going, the best policy must be to keep stakes (and bets) to a sensible level. No doubt we'll see a lot of horses pulled out today - and a number run poorly - purely on account of the conditions underfoot... or is it under-hoof?
Anyway, we started the week off in satisfying form on Monday. War Native (NAP) won as expected but the price did suffer for this well-regarded and promising Noseda juvenile and we also saw Jennie Jerome W85/40 last night. Hopefully we can repeat the dose today.
For our main information we're heading off to Newton Abbot over the sticks. Here Tom George runs #1 Good Citizen (NAP) in the 7.10. This 8yo won over today's trip of 2'3" the time before last at Market Rasen with today's jockey (PJ Brennan) up top. He has a decent record for the trainer (7-28, 25%) and in what could be a two-horse race against Peter Bowen's That's Confidential, this one gets the vote on what we've heard this morning.
We'd also throw in a quick word for Brinkmanship in the 5.55 at Southwell.
On the flat, the claims of Sir Mark Prescott's runner at Brighton, Limelight in the 4.20, weren't helped by a poor run on handicap debut last time out. The 3yo should go better today but, even so, we're not 100% convinced by what we've been told. Do watch the market though.
That's all for a wet and wild Tuesday. A few calls to make today with an eye to later in the week and we'll be back with you first thing on Wednesday - let's hope we can take in York as well!
