The Winning Line Daily Bulletin: 09 August 08

Fair to say that Friday didn't go exactly according to plan. The information, by and large, was fine but it was strong where it should have been weak... and vice-versa!

Messages for the likes of Masamah W5/2 could have been made better use of and although Wingwalker did the job (as forecast) at Newmarket last night but we'd have prefered the 9/4 SP to the 6/4 early price!

Andrew Nick was pulled up at Worcester but the Hills information was found wanting at Haydock as Servoca went down by a neck before Amber Queen (NAP) ran no sort of a race - connections were similarly baffled.

The perfect remedy should be a profitable Saturday and there's a lot of news this morning to, hopefully, make it a 'good day at the office'.

We'll begin by drawing a line through Ascot. You may like the contrived, team event that is the Shergar Cup but we're more interested in substance than style. It's a 'fun' day for betting at the Berkshire track... we don't bet for fun.

Two races at Haydock to get us going, and it could have been three or even four! In the 2.35 it's #3 Smokey Oakey. With ground to suit and some flawed opposition the Tompkins 4yo can continue its upward curve on ground which will only get softer.

Next up, we've had a decent enough word for the Stoute runner King's Event in the 3.10 but we prefer #1 Waffle in the 3.40. Back the Noseda 2yo each-way as it looks a very solid place bet against a not too impressive field. Later, in the 4.45, there has been money for Paul Cole's Beautiful Lady - and we can see why.

Little to say about Redcar (Last Three Minutes in the 3.35 was the one for us but the ground could again cause it to pull out) so we'll keep going North to Ayr.

In the 6.20 we're taking on the favourite, Jobe, with Mark Johnston's #1 Aladdin's Lamp. The trainer has a great record in this race (won 5 of last 7) and gave this juvenile a run out 10 days ago. Jobe sets the standard but this one has every chance.

In the Newmarket 3.15 #7 Misdaqeya is worthy of an each-way interest at a big price. The yard like this one (and it might save us some face with the Hills info).

We'll end at Lingfield with #9 Miss Carlotta in the 5.40 and #7 Seminole (NAP) in the 6.10. Both come from top yards, have solid figures and we've been told to consider both today as 'good things' - time will tell!

That's your lot for a busy Saturday, we're back with you on Monday - enjoy your weekend.
