Acquiesced was backed as though defeat wasn't an option at Windsor last night (W5/6 > 4/11) but it wasn't the most convincing of performances by Richard Hannon's 2yo - winning by a nose! Still, the result is all that matters.
Jacaranda was also heavily backed at Newton Abbot (5/2 > 13/8) but couldn't repeat the dose although Kossack did win at Ripon. Hard to get too excited about a 2/5 winner though!
Today the feeling still lingers that half the racing world is on holiday this week. Not the most inspiring of days at Catterick and Chepstow. Another, by and large, to keep our betting to sensible levels although we've a couple of messages to pass on.
To begin at Catterick and you'll recall with Astrodome W10/3 on Saturday we talked about looking at Prescott runners when something different is tried (trip, blinkers etc). Same goes today for Altitude in the 3.30. Up in trip to 1m5f and with the headgear on this 3yo has the feel of an ‘all or nothing' bet - she'll be first or last, that sort of thing, although the filly has drifted markedly in the betting this morning.
Earlier, in the 2.30, the main word for the meeting is for Mark Johnston's Feeling Fab but it's another very short poke and not one we'll seriously consider as a result.
Over at Chepstow we have #7 Prince Afram (NAP) in the 4.45. The Ralph Becket trained 3yo isn't a shoo-in for this race (not on the tentative messages we've had in this morning) but it does set the standard here and that last run at Leicester is arguably the best on show in the race. George Baker does well enough for this yard (4-27, +4.00) and this looks his best ride of the day.
That's all for today. Better racing, certainly in terms of quantity (if not quality!) tomorrow so we'll be back on Wednesday morning.
