The Winning Line Daily Bulletin: 02 August 08

A profitable start to the month as Awinnersgame (NAP) W6/5 last night following on from Sohcahtoa's late burst to win at Goodwood (W10/3) - there was also a word for Noseda's other winner on the day, War Native W8/11 at Newmarket.

Shame we didin't add to that with Harlech Castle and Hermano Cordobes (both a little disappointing) but, overall, a decent enough day.

We'll kick on today by starting at Goodwood. Just one to mention here and that's the ultra-consistent #2 Borderlescott in the Steward's Cup at 3.50. The 6yo won the race in 2007 and was 2nd last year and has solid each-way claims once again this year at a double-figure price.

Nothing else to mention at Goodwood (maybe Tishtar in the 5.00 for Hannon & Hughes) so we'll move onto Doncaster.

Here we see Willie Haggas run Diddums in the 2.50. We were on this one last time when it made the frame at Wolverhampton and have heard nothing negative prior to today's race. However, preference at the meeting goes to Jeremy Noseda's #6 Checklow (NAP) in the 4.00. This one has bags of scope to improve and we're told the vibes are very good today (if the price is a tad skinny).

We've also spotted Harald Bluetooth running at Newmarket in the 2.55. We collected on this one last time at Newbury but today's race, down in trip, looks less clear cut for Fanshawe's runner.

Two horses from Godolphin today are Gheed in the Thirsk 4.15 (the yard have a great record at the Yorskhire track) and then Zelloof in the Lingfield 6.50. This one is Frankie's only ride of the meeting and the filly is expected to improve on its Windsor debut 12 days ago.

We'll close with two at Hamilton. Take Brian Ellison's 2yo, #2 Lakeman in the 6.35. This one won well at York last time out, is top rated here and with the ground the only minor concern should take all the beating. Then, in the 7.35, it always pays to look at a Prescott runner when something different is tried. Here down in trip and with the blinkers on #11 Astrodome is quietly fancied ...

That's it for Saturday. We're back on Monday for the start of another busy and, we hope, profitable week.
