The racecourse at Thirsk is used solely for flat racing between April and September. It is made up of two sections, a straight course of 6 furlongs, running parallel to Station Road, with the start close to Thirsk Railway Station and the winning post in front of the grandstand. There is also a left hand circuit, about one and a quarter miles in length which joins the straight course some three furlongs from home.
There is a good view of the whole course from the grandstands, almost entirely against a background of open countryside.
