The top 20 of the ATP tennis rankings looks set for a dramatic shake-up in 2011.
No doubt the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will remain the players to beat ... after all, as they say, form is temporary but class is permanent!
 |
| Djokovic and Murray both have points to prove in 2011 |
We should expect these two players to be battling it out for top honours once again at the four Grand Slams -
Australian Open,
French Open,
Wimbledon and the
US Open - not to mention the numerous
Masters Series events.
Top Two Keep On Winning
Their participation in major finals looked assured ... question is, can the same be said about the likes of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray (both are long overdue some Grand Slam success - a second win for the Seb, a first for the Scot).
We should see guys like Juan Martin Del Potro, Nikolay Davydenko and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all rebound from injury-hit campaigns in 2010, whilst some of the year's big improvers (Robin Soderling, Tomas Berdych, Jurgen Melzer) will do well to maintain their progress.
Elsewhere have we now seen the best of Andy Roddick, Fernando Verdasco and Nicolas Almagro? And can we finally see a few well-touted future winners (Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic even Sam Querrey) start to fulfil their undoubted potential?
What To Expect In 2011
| = | Rafael Nadal | Fitness the key but looks set for another good year |
| = | Roger Federer | Remains, with Rafa, head and shoulders above the rest |
| = | Novak Djokovic | After many false dawns will 2011 finally be his year - maybe |
 | Andy Murray | Ditto Djokovic! Time for the Scot to deliver a Grand Slam |
 | Robin Soderling | Genuine improver and can add more Masters Series titles |
 | Tomas Berdych | Started 2010 then tailed off badly - slide is set to continue |
 | David Ferrer | Good last 12 months suggest Spaniard is still a force |
 | Andy Roddick | 2010 was no vintage year, A-Rod starting to look vulnerable |
 | Fernando Verdasco | Very hard to see the Spaniard retain his top 10 status |
 | Mikhail Youzhny | Played some good stuff lately - steady but unspectacular |
 | Jurgen Melzer | 2010 was a good year but will do well to repeat that form |
 | Gael Monfils | Lacks no talent but lots of consistency, can only get better |
 | Jo Wilfried Tsonga | If he stays injury-free, 2011 should be a productive year |
 | Marin Cilic | 2010 - great start, lousy finish. Must make all of 2011 count |
 | Nicolas Almagro | Clay form keeps him up there ... but how long can it last? |
 | Mardy Fish | Long overdue success in 2010, will struggle to copy it in 2011 |
 | Ivan Ljubicic | Indian Wells 2010 heroics set to become a distant memory |
 | Sam Querrey | Every chance he could usurp Roddick as US No.1 this year |
 | John Isner | Only thing bigger than his serve is a lack of all-round ability |
 | Marcos Baghdatis | Can win again in 2011 but set to passed by improvers |
Stars Of The Future
 |
| Viktor Troicki: Serbian helped his nation to Davis Cup victory over France in 2010 |
Of the newcomers, we should expect better things from the Serbian
Viktor Troicki (now a Davis Cup winner) and the Latvian
Ernests Gulbis.
Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan and the Dutch player
Thiemo De Bakker were also late season eye-catchers who can take further strides in 2011.
All in all, it promises to be a great year on tour with several familiar players facing a real battle to survive and a few new kids on the block looking set to make their mark. We advised winner after winner on the ATP Tour in 2010 (up to a top price of 40/1) and predict plenty more success in 2011.
